Holiday thoughts..

Been a while since I last made an entry on my blog..been travelling a lot, meeting a lot of people and generally having a great time. The first few days of any holiday are great..one tends to revel in the fact that no work needs to be done, and if one has been diligent just prior to the vacation, in terms of finishing any pending work, that adds more joy to the vacation..thatz just for the first few days..then slowly, you begin to miss something vital in your life..as if a piece of a puzzle you've been working on can't be found..that lost, listless feeling that comes when one doesnt have anything to look forward to..a vague emptiness begins to fill our day..then its time to pack one's bags and return to routine..or routine eventually takes over anyways..before you know it, its time to return home, back to the familiar grind of work, home, and back to work on Monday morning. the mind is trapped between wanting to spend more idle time, and the thought of getting back to work (thankfully in my case, the work thoughts weren't that daunting, but felt sad to return all the same)..

Till the next holiday! ;)

  1. These are my advisor's thoughts on vacation. Let's say you plan to take a vacation of one month.

The first week is spent in trying to come out of the routine that you are used to. Thinking about pending work (however diligent you may be in finishing it:)) is what we do.

The second and third weeks are when you start enjoying vacation.

The fourth week is again spent in worrying that you have to go back to routine, getting tensed about the work that has accumulated and so on.

In reality, if you plan for one month, you get only two weeks of vacation :). But one month of vacation is a luxury to most of us :)

Liked the last part of your post where you can't wait to get back to routine. Although you take vacation to avoid just that :)
