Autodrivers in Chennai. The very thought of them conjures up a menacing looking guy who will quote sky high fares to drop you at your destination. Or so I thought. Today changed all that for me and I will never be completely sure to paint all auto drivers with the same brush.
Yesterday I discovered to my shock and horror that my wallet had gone missing. After searching both my workplace and home, I realized that I had well and truly lost it-either it had been pinched during my daily bus commute to work or I had misplaced it somewhere and it was gone forever. The silver lining was that I had very little cash in it, but my ID and ATM card were very much in there, alongwith some pix of family and friends (aside: Jerry Seinfeld once said, if a woman is ever caught speeding on the highway, she may not have her driver's licence, but she will definitely say, "oh i dont have my licence, but here's a pic of every friend I've ever known..and oh here's our family dog..and so on..and the cop is very likely to say,'that's fine ma'am, no need for your licence, you seem like a popular person, please go ahead, sorry for stopping you!)
The wallet Seinfeld was talking about could very well have been mine..So anyway, today was a rather bleak day to start with..it began very early in the morning with me making a last ditch effort at searching everywhere for my wallet and just as I was about to face the task of cancelling my ATM card and applying for a new ID and so on, I got a call from a stranger saying an auto guy had found my wallet lying on the road and would give it to me in the next hour! I was speechless with shock and surprise. The stranger wouldnt give me his name, only the auto number of the guy who would deliver my wallet to me.
One hour later my wallet and me are reunited as a smiling auto guy said he had found it lying at the signal crossing where I cross the road to come to work.
There is some good in this world..really. :)

note to remember
When was the last time you stood up for yourself? When was the last time you truly believed in something? Asserted your right and put your thought, values, beliefs and action behind one idea, one goal? That one idea that deep inside you know is right?
Isn't it time to make that effort and stand up for yourself, for dignity and self respect? All it takes is for one person to push you to do that, and well, I guess I just got that. Sometimes help comes in the form of an unpleasant surprise or an experience that can only be deemed 'unfair', to make you see what's right and to realize what we are doing is totally worth it. Just believing it is so, makes it right and truly worth it. Don't worry about the noise around you, just focus on your own path.
Stand up. Believe. Make it happen.

Horoscope for today..
The line between yourself and others is widening right now, as you are entering a phase of solo introspection. This is something to embrace, not to be worried about. Even if your social life has not been extremely active lately, you will relish the discrepancy between what is going on in your own life and what is going on in the lives of other people around you. This is your chance to step back from the world and bow out of social obligations. Get used to greater freedoms.
