Ode to the Eagle

Ode to the Eagle

Like the grease on the kadhai,
The garbage in the bin,
The dust that settles despite the broom.

Like monthly bills,
Like a bad penny,
Like a worn out battery,
Like a pesky cobweb,
Like the hole in the bucket.

Like the virus,
Like the milk spill on the counter,
Like that one mosquito near your ear all night
Some things are here to stay.

But come what may,
But here's what we can always say,
Stay away for your own good,
Coz if you show up,
I'll get to you before the virus ever could. 😈😈

DPU

DPUs in our lives

DPU is a mood, an emotion,
An elusive unicorn, a will-o-the-wisp;
DPU shows up to work when he likes,
But mostly chills with biryani at Paradise 🍚
DPU knows no time but his own,
Not a person in this building to whom he isn't known,
His favorite person is aunty R,
Who brings him gifts from near and far,
Sometimes a new torchlight sometimes a toolbox,
Coz DPU rocks!

DPU is the man for the job,
The job that remains undone,
Rain or shine,
DPU he's fine,
Oh so fine!

DPU oh DPU what would life be without the DPUs in our lives 🌼

Y

The letter Y

Is a secret vowel in Wordle
A word in a letter
A world in a word
A question with many answers
A question with no answers

Yielding
Yearning
Yes.

I wrote

Love is

Love is.

My kitchen
My spice box
Every bowl every dish
Every ladle every spoon
Some old and wise
Some new and sharp
That I put together over the years.

To make food for the soul perhaps not always for the palate 🙄
But my kitchen is where love just...is.

Wannabe IRL

#####

I tell you what I want
What I really really want
So tell me what you want
What you really really want

I really really really wanna be accepted by society
Be famous
Be validated
Feel finally worthy inside.

But my dear, true worth comes from the inside to begin with.
It begins by loving oneself
It's hard but it's worth a try
And then some more.

It starts and ends with your immediate family as you choose to define it
If people like it that's fine
Else move on like only you can

So you really really really truly can zigazig ha!

Fundamentals of parenting aka how I was raised

Be there for your child as best as you can as often as you can

Listen to your child

Do things with and for the child.

Good nutritious  fresh food is important. Give them enough and more to eat. Always keep more than enough food stocked.

Live your values. Your generosity to others is noticed and imbibed by the child. As is empathy and any other values.

Work hard. Stay disciplined to a routine daily. Consistency is key to raising grounded kids

You will have many days when things are a nightmare. Even then try and stick to a routine.

Do homework with your child

Take child to the playground

Take an active genuine interest in what the child says or does

Stay truthful never lie.

Do what you love every day.

Respect your spouse. Try never to disagree in front of your child. If you do disagree try to do so without being disagreeable.

Teach them to laugh, read, write, draw and play.

Stay strong for your kid through good days and bad.

They will see the parent and learn what the parent does.

Lecture not required.

Stable, calm, parenting is enough 😊

Teach them the value and importance of money and all the things that can be done with money. However always teach them how money does not equal or replace happiness, love or presence.

Learn to live with a little less than what you can manage with. Not with deprivation but with just enough.

Practice contentment in all aspects of life.

Teach them the value of owning material things but also teach them how to make the most of them.

Teach them to look beyond the trappings of wealth and  never let wealth replace values and character in another person.

Respect all religions. Practice treating everyone equally.

The world can and will be cruel and unjust, contradictory and destructive. Help the child make sense of the darkness in the world by teaching them about the solutions to society's most pressing problems. Challenge them to think about solving them in their own way.

Allow space for mistakes. It's the only way to grow.

Practice non judgement to others especially treat their friends with care and love. They will appreciate you more for it.

Strictness will be called for. Follow thru on instructions when things aren't done. This will often be the case.

<will continue>

Today and tomorrow

Today we check school bags to make sure we keep everything in it required like books stationery etc
Tomorrow we check their bag to ensure their passport and visa is kept safely before they travel

Musing on 31st August 2022 posting today :-)

Musing today:

Hamster on a wheel,  I run.
The Psychologist observes from the great Heaven above 🌞

Gen next

All the time, every time.

Every thing a child does, big or small, scrawl on a wall or a cool puzzle,

A spaceship with paper or a unicorn with glitter,

A sandcastle by the ocean or a fairytale story

A tall tale or a show and tell

Celebrate the little things and the big things,

All day every day,

That's what makes it all worth it, thats all that matters. 😊

#####

When they err as we do, be polite yet firm

There will be protest, unpleasantness even

Yet we persist

Teaching them right from wrong, good from bad

Teaching them about life's inevitable greys

Is what makes it worth it.

We struggle, we falter, we fall and we rise

Let the young minds see us in our struggles as we see them in theirs

We are learning as they are

We are growing as they are

Hopefully. 😊

On comedy

Discovered a comedy podcast Smartless hosted by Jason Bateman, Will Arnet and Sean Hayes.

Now that I'm tracking Conan across all platforms I listened to his interview by the Smartless team too.

Conan comes across as authentic and intelligent, warm and funny. There is no one like him.

At one point in the interview he talks about the spirit of comedy this quality that people of all walks of life might have not just entertainers. They could be doctors or construction workers too.

This quality he talks of, this sense of comedy and the unique ability to see life differently is so rare but when two people who have this quality meet, the experience is nothing short of magic.

I so relate to this observation. I'm often goofy with kids for instance. I get either eye rolls or laughs depending on my audience 😄
