Signs of a management researcher

You know you're in management research when..
1. Finding an article in 'fulltext' online thrills you
2. You spend a big part of your life searching for treasures on the internet (files that end with .pdf and .xls..the kinds that will take too long to mail across)
3. Scholar.google.com is your homepage
4. You are signed up for most, if not all, listservs and journal mailing lists possible in your research area and related topics..'related' topics cover a broad spectrum of subjects
5. Significant results mean everything to you-your definition of significance is at the 0.05/0.01 level-so when someone who's not from management says something is significant, you wonder whether its at 0.05 or at the 0.01 level!
6. You dream of SPSS/AMOS outputs
7. Conference deadlines rule your life
8. You're smiling to yourself at an idea you just had-which strike at the most awkward moments-while talking to someone about a serious, totally unrelated issue, or at 2am..
9. You see theoretical models everywhere!
10. Your powerpoint slides have more text than diagrams (this point courtesy my friends in computer science!)

(Friends feel free to add to my list..)

Back after ages!

Hello blogging!

So much has happened since my last 'Simpsons' post in March, at which point, I didn't know I'd be so close to witnessing the outsourcing industry in action. My two months at IBM India Research Lab, Bangalore have thrown open a whole new world, a world where theoretical models meet business practice and weave an infinitely complex story. Any work that is undertaken in such a context is time-bound and offers a snapshot of one, maybe a few perspectives of the actual business practice of such a colossal enterprise.

Working here has been challenging, and fun as I try to use what I know from research to translate that into some useful practical insights..

Still learning!
